let me just share one journey with you:
I and my dance team are on a new mission to Project Dance Hong Kong. (www.projectdance.com)
That’s a whole new story by itself. If we are in tune with what God is doing and what He wants us to do, you are to be sure everything is coming along and fallin into place by itself here and there. It’s been such an interesting, inspiring yet fear and trembling journey.
To see how everything coming into place is sooo exciting but to come the realization that this is a ‘holy’ project because a ‘holy’ God is in charge makes it excitingly-fear-and-trembling… what’s God gonna do next? What should we do here? And by prayers all is coming along…
Just to share with you some
REVELATIONS FROM GOD =)
1. it started with I was talking to one of my girls who was pestering me to submit a performance to this event but I didn’t wanted to dance with all the other pro dancers that’s gonna be there. I didn’t want to feel like an amateur. But then out of my mouth (without going thru my head), I blurted out – “If God got a message thru us, die-die also we will go and do it, else no need.”
2. Then, I drive home. On the way, before reaching, God spoke, “Use their culture to speak to them.” !! haha… so since I cant take back the words I just spoke about ‘die-die also do if God spoke’ like ten minutes ago, hence I started on this journey of submitting a dance performance. I shared with the team. From no one going, they began to be inspired to go.
3. God showed me to use this song that we’ve been choreographing but never got the right moment to use it - “Gai bian zhi ji” – now it fits - this song is meant for this production at this place. It’s a Chinese song = using their culture to speak to the hong kong Chinese.
4. we were having a roadblock with the choreography and the flow of the whole production. Then in my shower + praying time, God spoke – “The choreography should not be an expression of your skill but of the song and the message.” It makes sense because if you are able to do this, even if the person don’t know what the song is saying but through watching the dancer’s movement + expressions, they will still understand the message – that is an expression of the message! Hence, we started to explore to use props and a little bit of drama within the dance choreography.
5. one day, Nailin (my co-leader) just mentioned that she prefer to end the production with “it’s up to you whether you want to change or not instead of pushing Christ to the people.” But since we didn’t know how to execute it, we just went on with what we can do at the moment. I downloaded like a few hundred Cantonese/mandarin songs and after listening to most of it, I picked two songs to consider using as connection to the gaibianzhiji. then somehow as I was trying to translate the Cantonese song to English, I was shocked to discover the Cantonese song ends with a English rap. THE LAST LINE OF THE rap is “I leave that up to you.” I was shocked and most excited! Again, God has a hand over all these.
6. During snl (may 17, 08) worship time, I felt God said “pray for Him to open a way” for two of my team mates to go HK with us. and God showed me there and then that in our choreography, there is still two more spaces to slot in two more people into our testimony – bring 2 more people along!
7. true enough, one of the girls, rachel, her dad told her “not to waste money on this kind thing.” She fasted and prayed for three days, went to appeal to her dad again this time after she counted her cost and told her dad that she believe in what God wants to do so she’s gonna be pay half of the trip ($1100) from her own allowance and hope he will bless her with the other half. Guess what – this time her dad say “oklah. If God call you, He will provide the finance to us for you to go.” And he gave her the blessing to go with us!! Rachel’s faith had just increased. We are still praying for the other team mate.
8. I felt the song flow of the production is still not good enough. I wanted to cut the Cantonese shorter but then I really don’t know where to cut because there’s no repeat in the song and it’s actually a story from the beginning till the end. So on Monday (may 19, 08), after spending time in devotion, prayer and I pick up on the Cantonese song again asking God where to cut – lo and behold, God opened my eyes to show me where to cut!! And I was so excited because after cutting it there, the production flow much better and more right and makes better sense when connect to the other song! So I came in to church and cut it. the whole thing was shorten to 5.04 mins – which was exactly how we wanted it in the beginning.
12. we were rushing because one of the dancers planned to go back hometown but because of the trial and error rates, the deadlines were delayed. i cant tell her not to go home but somehow i didnt have time to look into the matter. But God did. her parents was going away the end of june and wanted to go back then instead of now! yahoo...
13. when nailin and i were going thru the sound effects to use as connectors in the production, i knew in my heart i wanted to use the heartbeats because it means alive but i didnt knew how to put it in 'connectingly' so we settled for other sound effects. but the production took a turn as we hit a roadblock and kaz & kat came to brainstorm with us they suggested the heart beat! haha...
14. the list will go on….. because God is not done with me yet =)
I know I’m being long-winded again.
But I feel and in my experience (above is just many of the man-ies), I believe God is involved in every little bit of details in our lives. We need to learn to listen to Him telling us what to do so that we can walk in where He wants us to walk. Then all the bits of this jigsaw puzzle call “my life” will fall into place.
And even if it does not fall into place like we see it with our physical eyes, I can tell you that you will still have this strange ‘calmness + peace’ that your faith eyes tells you that “it’s gonna be right just like how God say it is.” I can’t explain but I know because I’ve experienced it.
When you are inspired, you can inspire others as well.
How’s your journey with God? Has it been exciting?
